Ursula’s late husband had, had a fine sense of style. Braxton was sitting in the unlamented male’s study at a large mahogany desk with writing implements and paper strewn over the top. There was a fire in the fireplace and two comfortable-looking lounge chairs in the corner near two bookshelves, and for a moment, Braxton enjoyed a relative period of peace. He actually relaxed and read for a change, his constant fight or flight response was muted, and he was content. Braxton began to consider not going after his father's territory. He had more than he dreamed possible. He had a partner and her son. As angry as he was at his parents, he no longer possessed the burning need to destroy them. His peaceful ruminations were interrupted as Martyn crashed into the room excited and out of breath. "Braxton! They're coming, a whole army of men! From the West, what do I do?"

"Whoa, okay how many is an army? Is it a patrol? Who is it? Martyn, slow down," He growled menacingly, shocking Martyn into slowing down.

Martyn took a deep breath. "Men from the West, about a hundred. They have weapons. I think they are Wolves. The leader has three parallel scars down the left side of his face–"

The growl that was pulled from Brax was more intense than any before, startling even him. Martyn moved back a couple of steps as if he was expecting Brax to rip out his throat. Brax launched himself out of his chair and raced out of the room, roaring for Ursula and his commanders.

Martyn trailed behind, obviously wondering what can of worms he had just opened. Braxton was trembling with rage, sweat appearing under his armpits and staining his shirt, his naturally olive face almost white as his teeth ground together.

"Right," Braxton began once everyone had gathered. He had managed to get himself somewhat under control. "The men approaching are from my home region, their leader is the mad wolf's son. Someone needs to keep the wolf away, at all costs." Pointing at a random guy in the meeting, he went on, "You are to do this. Under no circumstances are you to let him make an appearance! I'm going to meet with them. Ursula, I want you with me, Martyn, you are to stay here and make sure things are set up, get the men prepared. We are in for a fight, one way or another.”
